Stash... like I needed more...

Happy Friday!

As you have probably guessed today's post is about some new additions to my stash!

I remembered when I started ordering these new patterns I actually started to feel giddy with happiness! But did I really need them? Well yes and no! I have both mystery samplers started and need the other parts to finish them... but the other stuff? Well those were just because. What can I say? I love Christmas and Ella and the Frog is so sweet... I can see hanging it in my future daughter's bedroom :) .... ummmm what's wrong with me? I may not even ever have a daughter but I still want to stitch something that I MIGHT use... really I'm just justifying the purchase with an excuse - I only bought Ella and the Frog because I loved it. I have no idea where I would hang it, but nevertheless I still wanted it.

This leads me to a bigger, more philosophical question... Why is it we feel the need to buy more stash even if we already have plenty to do???? I have charts coming out the ying yang. More projects started than you can shake a stick at. More accessories/fabric/hand dyed thread than I know what to do with! Really... where does it end????

I've been much better recently with buying stash... that is, keeping control of myself and not going ape-shit-crazy over new patterns/fabric/floss. But I've only been better because I've been so mega busy with life and other projects, that are taking a bit of time (and money) away from my stitching. Shockin'... if it's not stitchy stash, it's quilty stash. What a vicious cycle!

In the end I'm not going to set one of those goals you see proclaiming "I WILL NOT BUY STASH FOR A YEAR..." or "I WILL NOT BUY ANYTHING UNTIL MY STASH IS EMPTY..." In the end, and we all know it, those are empty and unachievable goals. Well at least to me they are.

So what to do?

I can't see much in the way of options here. Being dedicated to stitching something as soon as you buy it is difficult, to say the least. So the only option is to remain as frugal as possible, so that my pocket book doesn't suffer too much and my stash doesn't start busting at the seams.

Ahhhh first world problems....

I'll leave you now with a couple of pictures!

Last night we had our first snowfall (real one anyway). Really big flakes of snow. Supper sticky... the stuff winter wonderland dreams are made of... and hard hitting snowballs!

The puppies were happy with the snow too! They couldn't get enough of the stuff and wanted to play outside all night long. Here they are this morning ready to play yet again (and looking for those belly rubs)! Too bad the snow turned to slush overnight :/

Until next time,

Melissa

  1. What a sweet, sweet picture of your girls!
I am able to not buy because we honestly don't have the extra money for it. It is as simple as that!! And.... you need to just not look. Honestly. I never check what new stuff is out or available.

  2. Love your latest stash!!! I agree, it is so hard to resist temptation in buying new stash :) I also think blogging is to blame too: we always seem to find something fabulous on someone else's blog :D Times are hard at the moment, so I'm not purchasing any new charts & use the ones I've got in my stash. The only things I'd buy are missing threads (my luck is I'd have the number before or after, but not the required one!) & fabric as my stash is a bit limited on these... Have fun with the snow xxx

  4. Oh dear, I was just having the same stashing dilemma. With the huge increase in US postal rates that has been a blessing and a curse. It means if I have to buy something eg floss then I think I might as well get a few other things to justify the postage. Makes perfect sense, right?

I know exactly what you mean about the giddy feeling when you are ordering something you are longing for!

Here on the west coast it's gotten below freezing but no snow yet. Your pups seem to have been energized by all that snow!

    Have a great weekend!

  5. I think we are all guilty of the stash issues. I try really hard to get them as bargains. Especially garage sales and church sales. I can get a lot of bang for the buck.

    Your doggies are adorable

  6. I have the same problem with stash. I have more than enough but I took advantage of GK's sale where everything was 25% of. I had been good for months, at least on the cross-stitch side of things. Sewing patterns and fabric is a different matter altogether.

  7. Ah, yes, the stashing... I just received a big stash order myself this week, so I am not in a position to judge! :P Enjoy the new patterns!

  8. Stashing is a common issue....you are not alone....
Adorable pic of the pups! Since we didn't have much snow last year for Panzer's first winter, I am looking forward to seeing him in some real snow! He definitely is friskier with the cooler weather.

  10. We all need stash! End of discussion, full stop! And remember we do not need to have an excuse to buy more. If I don't want a chart anymore up on eBay it goes or I give it away. Nice stash by the way!!

  12. Lovely new stash. I have the L*K stockings too!

I think buying new stash is too much of a temptation and let's face it it's better than drinking or smoking. However I am going to try very hard next year to stay off buying charts at least. I've bought way too much this year when I was only supposed to buying the Little Sheep Virtues!

Oooh snow. Can't wait to have some over here. It missed where I live last week.

  13. Melissa,

I like your new stash. I tried the I won't buy any patterns only fabric for other projects and floss for a year.

It didn't work for me. I did try. I knew we were moving and I would be busy with that. Nope I still found things to purchase. Oh well...2014 I will give it another try. Good luck!

Love the snow pictures and look at those two cuties!

    Have a great day!

  15. Are there any stitchers who don't know this probelm? I don't think so, lol. I've been trying to reduce my stash buying and I managed. Whenever I think that I need new stash I go through my charts and magazines and dicover so many things that I want to start stitching immediately that I really don't need any new stash. Only once or twice a year I place an order, that's a must, lol.

  16. If I knew the answer to the stash thing........I would have a LOT less stash. lol
I will go through it looking for something, get a little ill at realizing how much there is (which is still NOTHING compared to others, I'm sure), and know, in that moment, that I need NOTHING MORE EVER AGAIN EVER. And then a new design will come out that will have me squealing and having to fight myself to not buy it. I can't figure it out, that's for sure. *sigh*

p.s. Love the new stash. :)

  17. Love the new stash :) If you can afford it then go ahead and get something you like. There may become a time when your circumstances change & it won't be as easy to get new stuff. You will be very glad to be able to 'shop' your stash then

  19. 'Empty and unachievable'--so true! I have slowed down on buying stash due to economics in my household, but I really don't NEED to be buying any more! I got plenty!

  20. What lovely new charts! I know I told myself the same thing no more buying new stash because I too have MANY projects waiting for me:) But then I will see something that really appeals to my soul and there I go ordering. But I have improved lots:) Love your photo of the snow on the tree - SO Beautiful! Your girls are darling. love Annette
